Living by the coast brings particular challenges for painted surfaces. In Hastings, wind-driven rain, salt carried in the air and fluctuating moisture levels can take their toll on exterior masonry, render, timber windows and doors. Older properties in the Old Town can also feature traditional materials and original details that need a careful, sympathetic approach.

At REED Decorators, we consider both the building itself and its exposure to the coastal elements when planning decorating work. Thorough preparation, suitable primers and weather-resistant exterior coatings can help protect surfaces and maintain a quality finish. For older buildings, we also consider the compatibility of existing materials and, where appropriate, use breathable coatings that allow moisture vapour to escape. Whether refreshing a seafront property or carefully redecorating a characterful home in the Old Town, we tailor our approach to the needs of the building.
