Inside 400 Years of History: Interior Decorating a Grade II Listed Farmhouse in Battle

Following on from the exterior redecoration, here's a look inside this beautiful Grade II listed farmhouse in Battle, East Sussex, following its complete internal redecoration. With parts of the property dating back to the 17th century, this was a particularly special period property for us to work on.

Inside, the character of the building is everywhere you look. Exposed historic timbers, beautiful leaded-light windows, an incredible arched feature window and original architectural details all tell the story of a property that has stood for centuries. Our job wasn't to make a centuries-old building look new — it was to create a beautifully finished interior without losing what makes the farmhouse so special.

Our approach to heritage interior decorating is always about finding the right balance between fresh decoration and the character of the existing building. Careful preparation and attention to detail allowed the newly decorated spaces to sit naturally alongside the original timber and architectural features. The contrast between the fresh decoration, natural timber and original features has worked beautifully, and we're incredibly proud to have added this project to the REED Decorators portfolio.
